Ingredients
Biscuits
- 1 3/4 Cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 4-6 tbsp chilled butter or shortening
- 1 cup milk
Gravy
- 8 oz bulk sausage
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 2 cups milk
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 2 dashes hot pepper sauce
Directions
Biscuits
- Preheat oven to 450°F
- Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt
- Cut in butter or shortening, using a pastry blender or 2 knives, until the size of small peas
- Make a well in the center and add milk
- Stir for about 1 minute
- Drop walnut sized dabs of dough onto an ungreased baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes
Gravy
- Brown sausage in a large skillet
- Use a slotted spoon to remove the sausage onto a paper towel lined plate. Pour off all but 2 tbsp of the drippings. Add butter if necessary
- Stir in flour. Wisk until well combined and smooth
- Slowly whisk in milk, stiring constantly
- Simmer for 5 minutes or until thickened
- Season with salt, black pepper, and hot sauce
- Fold reserved sausage into the sauce before pouring over biscuits
